    Details

Sodium hydroxide, also known as caustic soda and caustic soda, has the chemical formula NaOH. It is a strong base, usually in the form of white flakes (flaked caustic soda) or granules (granular caustic soda). It can be mixed with water to form an alkaline solution. It can also be dissolved in methanol and ethanol. This alkaline substance is deliquescent and will absorb water vapor in the air, as well as acidic gases such as carbon dioxide. Sodium hydroxide is one of the commonly used chemicals. It is widely used and is a necessity in many industrial processes.

Sodium hydroxide has a wide range of uses, some of which are listed below:

    1. Used in papermaking and cellulose pulp production; used in soap, synthetic detergents, synthetic fatty acids production, and animal and vegetable oil refining.

    2. Used as a desizing agent, scouring agent, and mercerizing agent for cotton cloth in the textile printing and dyeing industry.

    3. Used in the chemical industry to produce borax, sodium cyanide, formic acid, oxalic acid, phenol, etc. Used in the petroleum industry to refine petroleum products and in oil field drilling mud.

    4. Also used in the production of alumina, surface treatment of metallic zinc and metallic copper, as well as in glass, enamel, leather making, medicine, dyes, and pesticides.

    5. Food-grade products are used as acid neutralizers in the food industry, as peeling agents for citrus fruits, peaches, etc., as detergents for empty bottles, cans, and other containers, as well as decolorizers and deodorizers.

    6. Widely used basic analytical reagents. Prepare standard alkali solution for analysis. Absorbent of small amounts of carbon dioxide and water. Neutralization of acids. Sodium salt manufacturing. Widely used in papermaking, chemical industry, printing and dyeing, medicine, metallurgy (aluminum smelting), chemical fiber, electroplating, water treatment, tail gas treatment, etc.

    7. Used as a neutralizer, complex masking agent, precipitant, precipitation masking agent, and colorimetric agent for the determination of ketosterols by thin layer analysis. Used in the preparation of sodium salts and saponifiers. Used in the manufacture of various sodium salts, soaps, pulp, finishing of cotton fabrics, silk, viscose fibers, regeneration of rubber products, metal cleaning, electroplating, bleaching, etc.

    8. In cosmetic creams, this product and stearic acid act as emulsifiers in saponification and are used to make vanishing creams, shampoos, etc.
