Allantoin 97-59-6 USP grade is a non-toxic, tasteless, non-irritating, non-allergenic white crystal. It crystallizes in water as a single prism or colorless crystalline powder. Melting point: 226-240℃. It is soluble in hot water, hot alcohol and dilute sodium hydroxide solution. It is slightly soluble in water and alcohol at room temperature, and difficult to dissolve in organic solvents such as ether and chloroform; its saturated aqueous solution (concentration of 0.6%) is slightly acidic; the pH is 5.5. It is stable in aqueous solutions with a pH value of 4-9. It is also stable in non-aqueous solvents and dry air; it can be decomposed by boiling in a strong alkaline solution and under sunlight exposure.
